DESCRIPTION:A variety of environmental stressors\, infections and neurodeg
enerative conditions cause global transcriptional downregulation inhuman c
ells\, a phenomenon we termed as Stress-Induced Transcriptional Attenuatio
n (SITA). In the talk\, I will discuss our work on understanding the mecha
nism underlying SITA that has led us to uncover novel nuclear condensates
formed by liquid-liquid phase separation. Similar transcriptional downregu
lation is also seen in lung cells upon SARS-CoV-2 infection\, identifying
 therapeutic avenues.
