DESCRIPTION:In view of the relevance of the McKay Conjecture in the repres
 entation theory\nof finite groups\, it is of common interest to investigat
 e how irreducible characters\ndecompose when restricted to Sylow p-subgrou
 ps.\nIn this talk I will focus attention on the symmetric groups and my fi
 rst step will be\nto briefly mention the combinatorial theory needed for t
 he study of the irreducible\ncharacters of Sn. Linear constituents of thei
 r restriction to the Sylow p-subgroup Pn\nhave already been studied and so
  I will present some results\nconcerning constituents of higher degree. In
  particular I will give the description of\nthe set of irreducible charact
 ers that have a constituent of a given fixed degree in their\nrestriction 
 to Pn.\nThis is recent joint work with Eugenio Giannelli.
