DESCRIPTION:Conference: \nWORLDVIEWS: Latin American Art and the Decolonia
l Turn\n\nLive Session: \nMargins and Institutions: New Curatorial Strateg
ies\nThursday November 18th\, 2.00pm GMT\n\nJoin us for this live session
of the conference which brings together contributions from scholars\, cura
tors and artists to discuss how decoloniality acts as a frame of reference
in the study of Latin American Art. \n\nSession Abstract:\nSince the 1980
s\, museums and institutional galleries across Western Europe and North Am
erica have increasingly held exhibitions and collected work by artists fro
m Latin America. Whilst this must be recognised as a welcome opening towar
ds cultures previously considered\, by those same institutions\, as deriva
tive or\, worst\, unworthy of art historical consideration\, certain conse
quences to such openness must also be taken into account. The attention re
ceived by so-called ‘global museums’ often sets in play discrepancies
between national and international art historical narratives. With cognisa
nce of the conference’s location within one of the epicentres of Western
art historical articulation\, this panel is interested in contributions e
xploring the interstices between the ‘global art’ discourse and curato
rial initiatives specific to regional contexts.\n\n\nChair: Paul Goodwin (
UAL) \nKeynote: Paulo Miyada (Centre Pompidou) \nSpeakers: Carolina Castro
(curator and researcher)\; Pamela Desjardins (curator and researcher)\; C
lara Masnatta (Harvard/Humboldt U. of Berlin)\; Eloisa Rodrigues (Universi
