DESCRIPTION:The Farey graph plays a role in a number of mathematical field
s ranging from\ngroup theory and number theory to geometry and dynamics. C
uriously\, graph\ntheory is not among these. We show that the Farey graph
plays a central role\nin graph theory too: it is one of two infinitely edg
e-connected graphs that\nmust occur as a minor in every infinitely edge-co
nnected graph. Previously it\nwas not known that there was any set of grap
hs determining infinite\nedge-connectivity by forming a minor-minimal list
in this way\, let alone a\nfinite set.
