SUMMARY:Dislocation dynamics simulations of plasticity in dispersion harde
 ned metals - Sylvain Queyreau\, Laboratoire d’Etude des Microstructures\

DESCRIPTION:In crystalline materials\, the plastic deformation is controll
ed by the motion of dislocations\, the linear defects present in the cryst
al and associated with a lattice distortion. The recent simulation techniq
ue of Dislocation Dynamics (DD) is a powerful tool to investigate the disl
ocations-dislocations interactions\, their collective behaviour and also i
nteractions with other obstacles such as precipitates. The seminar will pr
esent what we can learn from DD simulations (and their limitations) about
the plasticity of pure and alloyed materials. Ferritic steels used in extr
eme environments such as nuclear reactor cores is taken as a first illustr
ation. Then\, the fascinating effect discovered by Bauschinger is tackled:
why materials are softer in compression after a first tensile loading?
