DESCRIPTION:The discovery that small RNAs commonly regulate the expression
of many genes is one of the most startling recent advances in biological
sciences. MicroRNAs are now thought to influence the expression of about
half of all mammalian genes. Changes in the activities of microRNAs corre
late with diseases such as cancer. Understanding the specific functions o
f small RNAs requires defining the transcriptome of the cell in both norma
 l and disease states.
