DESCRIPTION:After decades of controversy among scholars\, there is now a g
rowing consensus that ancient Greek warfare was not singular and simple\,
but complex and multiform. The latest studies increasingly move away from
the traditional focus on battlefields and hoplites\, expanding the chronol
ogical\, geographical and operational limits of our understanding or Greek
warfare and its impact on ancient communities. In this talk\, the editors
of the newly published "Brill's Companion to Greek Land Warfare Beyond th
 e Phalanx"https://brill.com/view/title/61308?language=en will discuss the
latest directions in the field and the merits of studying Greek warfare be
yond the Greek mainland and beyond the phalanx.
