approach - Dr Christopher Davis (University of Warwick)

DESCRIPTION:The non-uniform spread of COVID-19 cases and vaccinations acro
ss the UK necessitates a consideration for spatial factors in modelling th
e pandemic. We use a stochastic metapopulation model for the Lower Tier Lo
cal Authorities (LTLAs) of England to assess the impact of spatial heterog
eneity in infections and the spread of variants. We aim to apply this mode
l to several questions such as how vaccinations should be distributed amon
gst LTLAs. In the context of the delta variant\, we demonstrate conditions
when it may be beneficial to reallocate vaccines to areas affected by hig
h prevalence\, or experiencing a surge in cases of the new variant.
