igation into the electrochemical approaches for carbon capture - Niamh Har

DESCRIPTION:With carbon emissions still on the rise and the goal of limiti
ng global temperature increase to 1.5 C become more improbable\; rapid dev
elopment and deployment of greenhouse gas mitigation techniques are paramo
unt. Traditional CO2 capture\, i.e. amine scrubbing\, require thermal ener
gy to release CO2\, limiting widespread use. An alternative approach is to
use electrical energy to perform the capture-release cycle. This has the
potential to achieve a more efficient capture process without the need for
harsh conditions. In this talk I will give an overview on how electrical
energy can be implemented to capture CO2\, areas of research my group is i
nterested in and how this field will grow in the future.
