DESCRIPTION:Microglia are the brain macrophages\, eliciting multifaceted f
unctions to maintain brain homeostasis across lifetime and in all pathophy
siological conditions. A new line of research suggests that metabolic plas
ticity plays a crucial role in regulating microglial function. Hence\, the
nature of nutrients reaching the brain to feed microglia could control it
s immunosurveillance ability to maintain homeostasis within the brain. Whi
le\, brain energy metabolism and substrate availability vary under physiol
ogy and disease states\, how these variations influence microglial functio
n and eventually affect neuronal control of behavior and physiology is rel
atively unknown.\nIn this talk\, I will detail part of our work on the mec
hanisms regulating microglial metabolism and the consequences on its activ
ity\, when the fueling of the brain has changed\, during neurodevelopment
 or under obesity.
