DESCRIPTION:The roots of genetics\, anthropology and indeed all the biolog
ical sciences are inextricably intertwined with the invention of racial ta
xonomies. These were designed to serve a political ideology. We have a per
nicious history in that regard\, but the trajectory of our history is wort
h celebrating\, especially in the dismantling of the biological essentiali
sm of race by contemporary genetics. Nevertheless\, the legacy of historic
al scientific racism persists in our labs and language\, and must be confr
onted in order to serve better representation and better science. \n\nYou
