DESCRIPTION:As the Square Kilometre Array (SKA) telescope started construc
tion in July 2021\, we are also building a team of astronomers and enginee
rs to build the data processing pipeline (the SKA Science Data Processor)
for the unprecedented amount of data that will arrive. The huge amount of
data to be generated calls for many challenges in the existing methods and
algorithms in every aspect of radio astronomy. Here I am going to briefly
introduce some of the work the Cambridge SKA Team has been conducting\, f
rom developing the initial pipeline prototype of imaging to generating sim
ulation data and developing quality assessment metrics to test the pipelin
es. I will also list a few ways how the astronomy community can contribute
to the initial development of SKA software.
