DESCRIPTION:Quantum particles are able to tunnel through a potential barri
er: Due to their probabilistic nature\, they may pass through classically
impenetrable barriers\, even at zero temperature. This can also be achieve
d in macroscopic systems\, for example in superconducting Josephson juncti
ons\, where dissipation modifies the tunneling without prohibiting it. In
this talk\, I will introduce a topological planar Josephson junction\, whe
re quantum tunneling connects topologically distinct regions. I will expla
in what topological systems are and how they can be promoted by tunneling
processes\, with resulting states being superpositions of topologically tr
ivial and non-trivial states — Schrödinger’s cat in macroscopic syste
 ms.
