DESCRIPTION:Heating the solar corona is one of the key areas of research i
 n solar physics. In this presentation\, we look at how energy can be store
 d in the coronal magnetic field and released in an avalanche process\, whe
 reby the release of energy by magnetic reconnection in one location can re
 sult in the triggering of energy release in nearby regions. Heating is rel
 ease across a much larger area and the implications for heating the solar 
 corona are discussed.
