DESCRIPTION:Most theories of the microscopic world predict the existence o
f particles with very long lifetimes\, but these long lifetimes also make
such particles very hard to detect. Because of this\, long-lived particles
remain one of the least explored regions where physics beyond the Standar
d Model could be hiding. I’ll give an overview of long-lived particle se
arches and why they are so tricky\, before describing CODEX-b: a proposed
extension of the LHCb experiment which could greatly increase its sensitiv
 ity to long-lived particles
