DESCRIPTION:It is widely recognized that the use of nonclassical states of
light allows one to overcome the shot-noise limit in precision phase meas
urements. The enhancement comes from exploiting inherently quantum feature
s\, such as entanglement\, that are sensitive to decoherence mechanisms pr
esent in realistic measurements. In this talk we present designs for quant
um-enhanced phase sensing that are robust to experimental imperfections\,
such as photon loss. The ultimate precision of such schemes exceeds the sh
ot-noise limit\, but is inevitably worse than the ultimate quantum mechani
cal Heisenberg limit for the decoherence-free scenario.\n
