DESCRIPTION:We present an account of semantic representation that focuses
on\ndistinct types of information from which meaning can be learned. In\n
particular\, we argue that there are at least two major types of\ninformat
ion from which we can learn meaning. The first is what we call\nexperienti
al information. This is data derived both from our sensory-\nmotor interac
tions with the outside world\, as well as from our\nexperience of own inne
r states\, particularly our emotions. The second\ntype of information is l
anguage-based. In particular\, it is derived\nfrom the general linguistic
context in which words appear. Semantic\nrepresentations are given\, then\
, by combining these two types of\ninformation. In the talk we will first
provide an overview of this\nproposal\, and then present a Bayesian model
detailing how these two\ntypes of information can be integrated with one a
 nother in a\nstatistically optimal manner.\n
