DESCRIPTION:Textile reinforcement is a novel type of reinforcement for str
uctural concrete. It is made of high-performance continuous fibres that ar
e bundled into fibre strands. By means of highly automatized textile fabri
cation methods\, these strands are processed into a fabric. The reinforcem
ent is characterized by superior mechanical properties and a high corrosio
n resistance. In this seminar I will discuss some research gaps that are c
urrently being addressed in my work with an innovative and interdisciplina
ry approach. Furthermore\, I will highlight some pilot applications where
the usage of textile reinforcement resulted in a reduction of the overall
material consumption and enabled a more sustainable solution compared to s
teel-reinforced concrete elements. As a conclusion\, it can be stated that
textile reinforcement is a promising new type of reinforcement for struct
ural concrete\, which in the author’s point of view will find its way in
to practice in the near future.
