DESCRIPTION:The Northern Antarctic Peninsula (NAP) is a key region for bio
geochemical studies because of its ocean-atmosphere-cryosphere coupling\,
the influence of Circumpolar Deep Water\, and for being located in a trans
ition region of marine ecosystems. In addition\, this region has experienc
ed rapidly changes in ocean and cryosphere processes\, such as an increase
in sea surface temperature\, changes in sea ice cover and phytoplankton c
omposition. Thiago Monteiro will show some outcomes from the CARBON Team (
www.carbonteam.furg.br) of the Brazilian High Latitude Oceanography Group
(GOAL)\, regarding ocean biogeochemistry along the NAP. The CARBON Team ha
s been developing research activities along the South Atlantic Ocean and N
AP\, mainly on the marine carbonate system and sea-air CO2 fluxes using bo
th GOAL data and robust international databases as well as satellite image
 s. He will show the variability and changes in CO2-carbonate system that h
ave been under investigation in these regions and the future perspectives
 given the ongoing climate change.
