SUMMARY:Photonic Doppler velocimetry: The easy way to measure particle vel
ocity - Philip Rae\, Los Alamos National Laboratory\, New Mexico

DESCRIPTION:Advances in the telecommunication industries have resulted in
a wide variety of fiber based lasers and optical fiber components being av
 ailable cheaply. Additionally\, ultrafast (50Gsamples/second) digitizing o
scilloscopes have been developed in the last few years. Using these compon
ents\, it is now possible to create a robust fiber based interferometer th
at with essentially zero alignment difficulty can measure the particle vel
ocity of almost any diffusely reflecting surface. This presentation will c
over the theory\, construction and analysis of the data.
