DESCRIPTION:In recent years\, high-resolution spectroscopy has proven to b
e a powerful avenue for atmospheric remote sensing of exoplanets. This met
hod uses the fact that at high spectral resolution (R ~ 100\,000)\, indivi
dual spectral lines in a planet’s atmosphere can be separated from quasi
-static stellar and telluric lines due to the Doppler shift during the pla
net’s orbit. The unique fingerprint of molecules can then be extracted u
sing cross-correlation techniques\, which has led to detections of key mol
ecules\, such as H2O and CO\, in several hot Jupiters. In this talk\, I wi
ll give an overview of the data analysis and present preliminary results f
rom the science verification of CRIRES+\, a newly commissioned high-resolu
tion infrared spectrograph at the VLT.
