DESCRIPTION:I will discuss some recent work on a quantum analogue of the k
inetic Landau equation\, called the Landau-Fermi-Dirac (LFD) equation. The
LFD equation models the behavior of a Fermionic gas with Coulomb potentia
l interactions and is substantially better behaved than the classical Land
au equation. In particular\, LFD admits the existence of global-in-time sm
ooth solutions. In addition\, all solutions relax towards equilibrium. For
solutions near equilibrium\, the relaxation occurs at an explicit algebra
 ic rate.
