DESCRIPTION:*Abstract:* Delusions in schizophrenia are commonly approached
as false beliefs that result from epistemic failures to represent reality
correctly. This view has been dominant throughout the history of psychiat
ry\, and continues to inform contemporary research and practice. Phenomeno
logical accounts\, by contrast\, have suggested that delusions are more ad
equately understood as pertaining to a different kind of reality experienc
 e. In my talk\, I will discuss the results of a phenomenology study of del
usional reality experience and its implications for diagnostic\, explanato
ry and therapeutic approaches of delusions.\n\n*Biography:* Dr Jasper Feya
erts is an Assistant Professor of Clinical Psychology at Ghent University
(Belgium) and an Associate Researcher at the Center for Contextual Psychia
try at KU Leuven. His current research interests are phenomenological appr
oaches of psychosis and delusions\, interdisciplinary integration of pheno
menological research with other research approaches in clinical psychology
and psychiatry\, and philosophy of psychiatry. For more information on Dr
