DESCRIPTION:It's widely believed that future improvements in computer powe
r will arrive\n in the form of chips with vastly more concurrent execution
\, such as 100-core chips. This belief has caused much more attention to
be paid to the abysmal state of our concurrent programming abilities. Des
pite 40 years of research\, most programmers find it very difficult to wri
te programs that are \nconcurrent\, correct\, and maintainable. This talk
will explore how this happened\, what the current state really is\, and wi
ll offer some glimmers of hope for the future.
