DESCRIPTION:*Abstract*: \nBackground:\nIn the UK\, there are 850\,000 Peop
le Living With Dementia and 2.4 million people with Minor Cognitive impair
ment. Sleep problems are common in Dementia of all types (20-90%) and Mino
r Cognitive Impairment (18.3–45.5%). There are no licensed medications f
or this and medicines used have harms.\nSleep management in people with co
gnitive impairment is an example of a ‘wicked design problem’ becaus
e the problem is complex\, the knowledge required to understand and addres
s it includes multiple disciplines and subject expertise\, and because int
erventions do not ‘fix’ but support best management in context. \n\n\n
The cause of sleep disturbance in this population is multifactorial:\n* Ag
e-related changes e.g. lower sleep efficiency\, weakening of circadian ent
rainment\, visual impairment\, contributing to sleep-wake rhythm abnormali
 ties.\n* Psychological disorders e.g. stress\, anxiety or depression.\n* M
edicine side effects e.g. Donepezil (medicine licensed for dementia) and n
 ightmares.\n* Co-morbidities e.g. arthritis\, heart failure\, reflux and o
bstructive sleep apnoea. *Environmental factors e.g. excessive nocturnal n
oise or light\, low daytime light exposure\, uncomfortable room temperatur
e\, polution and nocturnal care practices. \n* Activity levels e.g. reduce
d physical activities\, social disengagement and daytime napping. \n\n\nIn
this presentation we will consider the following key issues:\n\n# Sleep\n
 # Sleep in dementia/MCI\n# Prevention of dementia and sleep\n# Harms of me
dication in dementia/mci\n# Suggested solution in dementia/mci\n# TIMES pr
 ototype\n
