DESCRIPTION:The Centre for Energy Studies is supporting a student-driven i
nitiative aimed at encouraging students to carry out research projects tha
t will contribute to improving the sustainability performance of the unive
rsity and/or colleges\, and to encourage their use as ‘living laboratori
es’ for sustainability education. Many of you will have heard about this
initiative from Emilia Melville\, a CUSU Ethical Affairs Officer and fina
l year engineer\, and some of you may have attended the inaugural event at
King's College in January. \n\nWe have agreed to host an event on the 12t
h of March from 10.30-12:00 at Engineering\, Lecture Room 6. The objective
of this event is to stimulate interest in sustainability-related student
research involving the university and/or colleges\, and to initiate some
‘match making’ between the people that manage the infrastructure\, stu
dents and academics. The proposed agenda is\, as follows:\n\n1.	Short pres
entations by representatives from Estate Management and a few Colleges abo
ut their sustainability challenges and opportunities\, e.g. reducing energ
y consumption.\n\n2.	A number of academics to present brief overviews of
their sustainability-related research and\, if appropriate\, to express th
eir willingness to supervise or support student research.\n\n3.	Q&A and mi
ngling so that students can meet the speakers and other academics in atte
ndance and informally discuss research project ideas.\n\nWe would be delig
hted if you could attend and\, perhaps\, contribute a brief presentation
under Agenda Item 2. You could cover an aspect of your current research a
nd/or refer to an interesting project(s) by previous students under you su
pervision. You are very welcome to attend\, even if you do not contribute
a presentation!\n\nPlease let Claire Murray (cm437@cam.ac.uk) know if you
are available to attend\, preferably before 6th March. \n\nIf you are unab
le to attend\, you can also contribute by sending an outline of a possibl
e research topic to Emilia Melville (ejm58@cam.ac.uk). \n\nYour welcome to
pass this invitation on to your colleagues and/or postgraduate students\,
who might be interested in supporting or supervising research by (final y
ear) students. In keeping with the interdisciplinary ambitions of this ini
tiative\, we are eager to involve interested academics from as many releva
nt disciplines as possible. \n\nEmilia has established a CamTools site for
  this initiative (https://camtools.cam.ac.uk/site.html?siteid=aa68025f-1e5
d-43cf-b537-1cd49d1f34e0). For further information\, you are welcome to co
 ntact me or Emilia.\n
