DESCRIPTION:In this talk\, we will consider the motion of a viscous incomp
ressible and electrically conducting fluid between two rotating spheres an
d with an imposed exterior magnetic field. The inner sphere is a conductor
\, while the outer sphere is an insulator.\nPrevious works by Hollerbach\,
Starchenko\, and by Dormy et al. indicated that a shear layer is formed a
long the magnetic field line tangent to the outer boundary at the equatori
al plane. Our purpose here is to provide a quantitative mathematical analy
sis for this phenomenon.\nThis is a joint work with Jean Rax\, following d
 iscussions with Emmanuel Dormy.
