DESCRIPTION:Control of parasitic infections in animals and humans currentl
y relies on mass drug administration of a limited number of anthelmintics.
However\, this is not sustainable due to the emergence and spread of anth
elmintic resistance. Haemonchus contortus is a highly pathogenic gastroint
estinal nematode of small ruminants\, which is becoming increasingly diffi
cult to control due to multi-drug resistance. The mechanisms underlying an
thelmintic resistance are generally poorly understood\, with studies compa
ring resistant and sensitive parasites confounded by high levels of geneti
c diversity within and between and populations. To overcome this\, we cros
sed a well-characterised multi-drug resistant isolate of H. contortus with
a drug susceptible isolate to study resistance to three major anthelminti
c classes\, while controlling for background variation. In this talk I wil
l focus on our genomic and transcriptomic analyses of ivermectin resistanc
e and describe ongoing work investigating the evolution of multi-drug resi
stance in H. contortus and related parasites.\n\nThis talk will be broadca
sted via Zoom. Please use this "link":https://zoom.us/j/95026514738?pwd=aU
