DESCRIPTION:We invite you to the next Downing Site seminar series\, this t
 ime on the theme 'Pathogen Evolution'\, on Monday May 16th\, at 3pm in the
  Biffen lecture theatre (Genetics Department). This is a great opportunity
  to go beyond some of the barriers between neighbouring departments and le
 arn about the different approaches to a topic.\n\nThe format is three shor
 t talks (1hr total)\, followed by some drinks\, snacks and socialising on 
 the grassy quad outside Plant Sciences.\n\nSpeakers will be:\n\nKatherine 
 Brown (Pathology) - Identification of viral transcripts in RNA-seq dataset
 s from bees\, wasps\, mites and ants\n\nHenrik Salje (Genetics) - Using ev
 olution to understand patterns of disease spread\n\nSamuel Wilks (Zoology)
  - To what extent can we expect to understand antigenic evolution as a det
 erministic process? An example from influenza exploring historical and pot
 ential alternative evolutionary trajectories.
