DESCRIPTION:In the optofluidics group at the Cavendish Laboratory\, Dr Ale
xander Gentleman and colleagues have developed multiple setups utilising o
ptofluidic hollow-core photonic crystal fibers (HC-PCFs) to investigate th
e intricate details underlying photocatalytic systems.\n\nThe group aims t
o gain more insight into the electron transfer kinetics of photosensitiser
s (PSs)\; a key component comprising photocatalytic systems utilised in so
lar fuel production. One particular type of PS of interest to the group ar
e carbon nanodots (CNDs)\, which are proposed as next-generation PSs due t
o their unique advantages over conventionally-implemented PSs\, such as sc
alability\, biocompatibility\, water solubility\, and stable optical prope
rties\, together with being effective light-harvesters in photocatalytic s
ystems for solar fuel production.\n\nIn this seminar\, Dr Gentleman will d
iscuss his results in detail\, in addition to presenting some additional w
ork on other photocalaytic systems of interest.
