DESCRIPTION:Nitrogen limits biological productivity in large parts of the
modern ocean\, and it may have constrained the proliferation of life over
Earth's history. This talk will discuss how nitrogen isotopes can be used
to reconstruct the evolution of nitrogen availability through time. Furthe
rmore\, hydrothermal vents and lightning will be discussed as potentially
important nutrient sources that may have helped sustain the early biospher
