SUMMARY:A Playful Introduction to Some Modern Geometry - Prof Yang-Hui He\
, London Institute for Mathematical Sciences

DESCRIPTION:With a view towards explicit constructions\, we present some r
udiments of the intersection between algebraic\, differential and arithmet
ic geometry. Throughout we will take the opposite of the Bourbaki approach
and work through explicit examples\, rather than to emphasise on the theo
ry. \n\nJoining instructions: \nFW26\, Computer Lab\, 15 JJ Thomson Avenue
 \, Cambridge. \nZoom: https://dtudk.zoom.us/j/63952790964\n\nThis talk is
the first in the series: 'A Hitchhiker's guide to Complex Geometry'. Furth
 er details: https://complexgeometrytalks.github.io/\n\nBio: Professor Yang
-Hui He is a Fellow of the London Institute\, Professor of mathematics at
City\, University of London\, Tutor in mathematics at Merton College\, Oxf
ord\, and Chang-Jiang Chair of physics at Nankai University in China. He o
btained his BA at Princeton (summa cum laude\, Shenstone Prize and Kusaka
Prize)\, MA at Cambridge (Distinction\, Tripos)\, and PhD at MIT. After a
postdoc at the University of Pennsylvania\, he joined Oxford as the Fitzja
mes Fellow and an STFC Advanced Fellow. He works at the interface of strin
 g theory\, algebraic and combinatorial geometry\, and machine learning.\n\
nOutside of research\, Yang plays the violin (Princeton orchestra\; foundi
ng member of the Saville Consort) and is a tenor who sang for the chapel c
hoirs of St. Catherine’s\, Cambridge and Merton\, Oxford.
