DESCRIPTION:Research at the EPFL Geometric Computing Laboratory (GCM) aims
at empowering creators. We develop efficient simulation and optimization
algorithms to build computational design methodologies for advanced materi
al systems and digital fabrication technology. Mathematical reasoning\, ge
ometric abstractions\, and powerful numerical methods are key ingredients
in our work.\n\nIn this talk I will show how these tools can be used to so
lve challenging inverse problems for deployable structures that can transi
tion between multiple geometric states. Several design studies will highli
ght how the interplay of geometry\, computation\, and digital fabrication
technologies facilitates the discovery of new material systems with superi
or functional performance. Such systems offer a wide variety of potential
applications\, for example in industrial and consumer products\, soft robo
tics\, medical devices\, or architecture.\n\nLink to join virtually: https
