DESCRIPTION:Abstract:\n\nThe web is packed with harming contents ranging f
 rom hate speech and fake news to propaganda and scams\, to mention a few e
 xamples. In this talk\, I will offer an overview of our efforts against so
 me of them\, under the premise that\, by making them evident\, their effec
 t gets dimmed. The talk will depart at the identification of propaganda in
  text and will travel towards the identification of hate speech in both te
 xt and memes. I will close with some spoilers about our early works on ide
 ntifying propaganda in both hate speech and spam email.\n\nBio:\n\nAlberto
  Barrón-Cedeño obtained his PhD from Universitat Politècnica de Valènc
 ia (Spain). He is associate professor at the Department of Interpreting an
 d Translation\, Università di Bologna (Italy)\; a former Scientist at Qat
 ar Computing Research Institute (Qatar) and the Alain Bensoussan fellow at
  Universitat Politècnica de Catalunya (Spain). He is interested in the au
 tomatic analysis of diverse qualities of texts\, such as originality\, rel
 evance\, and intent\; also across languages. Alberto has published 60+ pap
 ers in the most important forums of NLP and IR (e.g.\, ACL\, EMNLP\, SIGIR
 \, ECIR\, IP&M\, LRE\, KNOSYS). He has co-organized various editions of bo
 th PAN and CheckThat! labs at CLEF as well as the SemEval 2020  shared tas
