DESCRIPTION:As computational power increases\, it is becoming more feasibl
e to model sea ice as a collection of ice floes\, as opposed to the more t
raditional approach of treating sea ice as a material\, as a continuum\, w
ith various rheological models proposed. In this talk\, I will discuss app
roaches for floe-based (i.e.\, particle-based) models of sea ice\, includi
ng some approaches to multi-scale modeling that aim to bridge the gap betw
 een floe-based and continuum-based models.
