DESCRIPTION:The goal of this lecture series is to provide a lightning intr
oduction to string perturbation theory and to illustrate the rich mathemat
ical structures of loop-level amplitudes. As a key example\, genus-one con
tributions to closed-string scattering amplitudes will be shown to natural
ly introduce infinite generalizations of automorphic forms known as ``modu
lar graph forms''. I will discuss their connections with multiple zeta val
ues seen in closed-string genus-zero amplitudes and with iterated integral
s over holomorphic Eisenstein series. Moreover\, I will sketch basic ideas
of higher-genus generalizations of modular graph forms.
