DESCRIPTION:Data will be discussed that suggest that recovery from motor i
mpairment after stroke is predictable in most patients within one week of
stroke. \nThis recovery seems to be proportional to the initial degree of
impairment. This predictability suggests that current rehabilitation may n
ot have an impact on impairment over and above spontaneous biological reco
very. A subset of patients with severe impairment do not show proportional
recovery. Functional imaging data will show that suggests that it may be
possible to identify this subset of patients. \nFinally\, data will be sho
wn showing that non-invasive brain stimulation can enhance motor skill acq
 uisition.\n \n
