DESCRIPTION:Numerical dynamo models have come a long way in explaining man
 y features of the geodynamo. Attempts to explaining the other planetary dy
 namos in the solar system are promising but not quite as convincing. We re
 view the system of equations solved in the models\, concentrating on the r
 uling force balance in the Navier-Stokes equation but also touching on the
  balances in the induction and energy equations. Correctly capturing these
  balances is the key to realistic simulations\, and we discuss some of the
  more successful numerical approaches.&nbsp\;\nCo-authors: names and affil
