DESCRIPTION:Earth is the rocky planet that we know best. Earth's formation
and early history must have a key influence on the origin of life on Eart
h\, as well as Earth's geology and later evolution. In fact\, for rocky pl
anets outside the Solar System\, divergent pathways during planet formatio
n can lead to the formation of planets vastly different from Earth. I will
summarise our current understanding of planet formation\, from our origin
s in the molecular cloud\, through the planet-forming disc\, to the late s
tages of terrestrial planet formation. I will discuss the latest advances
in the field\, as well as the open questions that remain\, including the d
ebate between pebble and planetesimal accretion.
