SUMMARY:Galaxy formation and evolution: the far-IR/sub-mm view - James Dun
 lop\, ROE

DESCRIPTION:I will review how recent sub-mm/mm surveys\, coupled with\nmul
 ti-frequency follow-up observations\, have informed our current view of\ng
alaxy formation and evolution. In particular I will present the latest\nre
sults from the SHADES project\, and the resulting implications for models
of galaxy formation. I will conclude with a discussion of the\nexciting pr
ospects offered by the now imminent next generation of mm-far-IR\nfaciliti
 es\, such as SCUBA2\, Herschel\, the eSMA\, and ALMA.
