DESCRIPTION:Second generation (2G) high temperature superconductors (HTS)
provide unparalleled capacity to pass electrical currents\, with tape a ce
ntimetre wide and 2 microns thick able to carry hundreds of amps. This dra
matic increase of current density over conventional wires allows for an in
cremental improvement in both motor and generator performance\, yet to fac
ilitate this requires dramatic changes in machine designs which have remai
ned unchanged for many decades.\n\nCambridge University EPEC superconducti
vity group\, headed by Dr. Tim Coombs\, is a specialised research and deve
lopment group which boasts significant academic expertise in the field of
superconducting electrical machines. We will license the cut-edge technolo
gy to generator manufacturers supplying the growing wind energy and marine
propulsion markets whilst continuing to innovate and lead development of
 this maturing technology.\n
