DESCRIPTION:Increasing the length (and quality) of our lives has arguably
been a major aim behind human scientific curiosity since centuries. In con
trast to the alchemists of the antiquity and the middle ages however\, mod
ern biology is promising tangible approaches that could aid lifespan exten
sion within the next few decades.\n\nWhat is the state of the art of curre
nt research into the biology of ageing and what are the biological reasons
for us ageing in the first place? Given that we will be able to undergo t
reatment to enhance life expectancy\, what are the ethical and demographic
issues arising from these possibilities?\nWith a series of engaging lectu
res followed by an open panel discussion\, this half-day meeting will help
facilitate a first conversation between scientists\, social scientists\,
and the general public on this topic of interest to all.\n\n*This event is
free and open to all.* You may register at the door\, or pre-register onl
ine by visiting the minisymposium website:\n\nhttp://www.ebi.ac.uk/Informa
tion/events/ageingresearch/\n\nFor more information on the EMBL Science an
