DESCRIPTION:Deepak is currently a second year PhD candidate in the computa
tional design group within the Engineering Design Centre (EDC).\n\nDeepak'
s research in the EDC focuses on 'A Flexible Integrated System for the Con
ceptual Design of Space Systems'. His research focuses on three key areas
in the preliminary design of complex multidisciplinary systems (Space syst
ems\, automobiles\, aircraft) which are often challenging in practice. Fir
st\, formalising a methodology that brings overall "System flexibility" in
the preliminary designs. Second\, demonstrating "System optimisation" off
ers better performance measures in the preliminary designs by multi-object
ive optimisation algorithms. Third\, addressing the "System decomposition"
issues through this integrated design approach\, enabling better trade-of
fs between the competing performance measures to be identified.\n\nThis pr
esentation describes the development of a flexible integrated system and h
ow the methodology chosen for this research can be particularly beneficial
to the Decision makers/Stake holders/Systems engineer in the conceptual d
esign phase of the mission life-cycle. It will also cover two space missio
n case studies selected for validating his work.
