DESCRIPTION:The British Antarctic Survey (BAS) has committed to achieving
Net Zero Carbon emissions by 2040 from its direct operational activities i
ncluding high impact activities such as travel and field operations. The g
oal is to align with aims set by the Natural Environment Council which is
part of the UK government's UKRI (Research and Innovation). As part of thi
s commitment\, BAS has developed a Net Zero Carbon strategy and delivery p
lan and identified key milestones along the Net Zero pathway to 2040.\n\nA
major series of decarbonisation projects are in the process of delivery\,
which include renewable energy and low carbon systems\, energy storage\,
automation\, a Digital Twin for the Royal Research Ship\, RRS Sir David At
tenborough and modernised and energy efficient infrastructure in Antarctic
 a. The challenges to overcome to achieve Net Zero are significant\, especi
ally when operating in Antarctica. There are also however significant oppo
rtunities that will ensure the UK polar community can continue to deliver
world class environmental research in Antarctica in the long term.\n\nNopi
Exizidou is the Net Zero Transition lead at the British Antarctic Survey
(BAS). She is an Engineer by background with more than 13 years of experie
nce on energy efficiency\, carbon reduction and wider sustainability. At B
AS she is leading the Net Zero Team. Her focus is on the development and i
mplementation of the Net Zero \n\nTo attend please book at https://www.mee
