DESCRIPTION:This is a survey talk on configuration spaces. After defining 
 them and situating them in the mathematical landscape\, I will introduce a
  common method to study their homology\, the so-called scanning. Focusing 
 on ordered configurations of discs\, I will discuss how their homology is 
 related to planetary systems and\, time permitting\, the little discs and 
 the Lie operad.
