DESCRIPTION:Coupled climate models such as those participating in CMIP6 ar
e invaluable tools for understanding the full climate system. This present
ation will comprise three different Southern Ocean investigations utilisin
g coupled climate models: (i) a literature assessment of the role of strat
ospheric ozone depletion in driving Southern Ocean changes in recent decad
es\, (ii) a multimodel analysis of Antarctic Shelf Bottom Water bias and c
hanges in coupled models\, and (iii) coupled simulations with low and high
Antarctic meltwater additions across the 21stCentury. The value and limit
ations of using coupled models for such investigations will be discussed.
