DESCRIPTION:Two of the most mysterious and most important invariants of a 
 number field are its class group and the group of units of the ring of int
 egers. I will show how knowing one of them might tell you something about 
 the other. Along the way I will explain one of the most gorgeous formulae 
 of algebraic number theory\, the analytic class number formula. The only p
 rerequisites are some elementary Galois theory and some of the material fr
 om the undergraduate "number fields" course.
