f the ocean over Earth history - S. Turchyn Earth Sciences

DESCRIPTION:The oxygen isotope ratio measured in carbonate skeletons of fo
ssilized organisms provides our primary repository of paleoclimatological
and temperature reconstructions over the course of Earth history. Howeve
r\, this calculation assumes a knowledge of the oxygen isotope ratio of
the ocean\, and the geochemical record remains ambiguous as to whether or
not this ratio has evolved over time. I will present two new geochemica
l tools I have used to explore secular variability in the oxygen isotope
ratio of the ocean through the Phanerozoic (the last 550 million years).
