DESCRIPTION:Single interlacing of particles along an array of parallel lin
es occurs in random tiling models (with lozenges or dominos) near the poin
t of tangency of the arctic curve (between the liquid and the solid region
 s) with the boundary of the domain. In contrast\, double interlacing appea
rs when introducing non-convexities in very large size domains of lozenge
or domino tilings\; this situation may lead to several liquid regions far
apart from each other or merely touching. The tiling fluctuations near the
point of touching are given by a new universal determinantal process\, go
verned by the so-called "discrete tacnode kernel". This represents a body
of work with Mark Adler\, Sunil Chhita and Kurt Johansson.\nThis represent
