DESCRIPTION:Abstract: The last two decades have seen the introduction of n
ew techniques that could revolutionise the process of engineering design.
Modern pipelines based on parallelisation and machine learning offer the p
ossibility of finding optimal designs searching over vast spaces of config
urations\; something that was unimaginable when much of the existing softw
are was designed. In this talk I describe four ideas that are fundamental
to our plans in Monumo: the use of geometric algebra\, machine learning\,
mesh-free simulation\, and the Julia programming environment. Each plays a
key role in constructing a modern simulation pipeline.\n	\nBrief Biograph
 y: Chris is a Director & AI Research Fellow at Monumo\, a start-up focused
on applying the latest technologies from computer science to problems in
engineering design. Prior to Monumo\, Chris founded Geomerics which delive
red real-time global illumination technology to the videogames industry. G
eomerics’ technology has since been used in 100s of games\, including FI
FA\, Star Wars Battlefront and Overwatch. Geomerics was acquired by Arm in
2013\, where Chris served as a Research Director and Entrepreneur in Resi
dence. In 2019 he took on the role of Entrepreneur in Residence for Physic
al Sciences at Cambridge Enterprise\, responsible for commercialising tech
nology developed in Cambridge University.\nChris is also a Director of Stu
dies in Physics for Sidney Sussex College and prior to founding Geomerics
he held numerous research posts\, including an EPSRC Advanced Fellowship.
He is the author of many research papers and a book on Geometric Algebra.\
